Apply Now to Host the 2024 Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curators Fellowship
Now in its fifth year, the programme supports emerging Black and POC curators with fellowships within leading arts organizations
Following successful iterations with Chisenhale Gallery, Baltic, The Whitworth Gallery and V&A East, Frieze and Deutsche Bank announce the return of the Emerging Curators Fellowship with an open call for its next host institution.
The programme is part of Frieze and Deutsche Bank’s wider commitment to amplify diverse voices in the art world by supporting emerging Black and POC curators through 12-month, full-time, paid Fellowships within leading arts organizations.
The successful organization will receive a £45,000 grant to cover the costs of the Fellowship, such as Fellow’s salary, management costs, travel and research, and evaluation costs.
Amina Jama undertook her Fellowship with the Chisenhale Gallery, and said it gave her ‘a lot of practical and hands-on experience’ – ‘I have worked closely with artists, on studio visits, with fabricators, supporting artists in research, and being present during installs.’
Kinnari Saraiya’s Fellowship was with the Baltic in Gateshead. ‘I was part of multiple exhibitions,’ she said. ‘The experiences I’ve had as a Fellow at the Baltic have provided me with a lot of confidence as a person and have enabled me to take the next step.’
Jama added: ‘This [programme] is important because it allows curators of colour to be at the forefront, to be in a setting where they’re not the token. I am equipped with a lot of new skills that I didn’t have before.’
The deadline for applications is 12 midnight BST on Monday 15 April 2024.
